Welcome to the Caribbean, You May Kiss the Bride

In our opinion, everyone should take a trip of a lifetime at some point.  Our older brother, Brian, and his now wife, Megan, decided to have a destination wedding with the family + close friends. Their destination of choice: the beautiful island of St. Lucia.

In May 2016, we packed our bags for the Caribbean. Catching a flight to Charlotte for one day then taking another flight to St. Lucia the next was an exhausting two days. However, as soon as we stepped foot at the resort, all the traveling stress disappeared. We got in our rooms and went straight to the bar for food + drinks.

Being in the south Caribbean comes with about 90% humidity. But what made that better was the open beach and two different pools we had access to! Don’t forget the free endless food + drinks! The first few days we arrived to the Sandals Resort, we explored, drank some great liquor + ate some delicious food.

On the fourth day of being in Paradise, Brian + Megan said their vows to each other. It was the most beautiful setting at sunset. Megan walked down the aisle with her Grandfather and was the most stunning bride. It was a beautiful ceremony followed by a family dinner at one of the restaurants at the Resort.

Brian + Megan’s Wedding

Our last day on the island of St. Lucia, we all agreed to a little get-away (from the resort) + an adventure around the island. Our dad signed us all up for a boat + island tour to explore the top tourist/local spots on the island. Our tour guide picked us up in a speed boat + we traveled to the other side of the island, stopping at hit spots on the way. We snorkeled at the white sand beach, spotted famous resorts (including the resort Ben Higgins brought his ladies on Bachelor Season 20), + bathed in a volcano mud bath. We ended the tour having a delicious lunch at the tour guide’s mother’s home, which was hidden deep in what seems the forbidden jungle.

We can’t thank our parents enough for giving us the opportunity to go on this family vacation. It was by far the best experience + we’d give anything to go back to our little piece of paradise.

Pretty Girls Smile

There’s nothing more aluring about a girl than her confident smile. Constantly being a happy woman can be difficult these days because we live in a world full of competition. Thanks to social media, we constantly compare ourselves to others by simply clicking on an app. We believe social media can be a place for raw, confident, supportive, + loving people. However, it can also be full of negativity + inaccurate representations resulting in feeling self-conscious + not good enough.

Becca + I have felt that way before. We felt like we needed to change our clothes, make up, hair, lifestyle, things we had, or big steps we felt like we had to take just to feel a tiny bit of satisfaction of inclusion. But in the end, we still felt like outsiders. We realized it’s not about the way we look, what we buy, the places we travel to, or what job we have. None of that matters. We always compared our lives to the ones we saw through a screen + judged our own.

We believe we have recently grown away from that + started to see + feel our self-worth. We are here to tell you that you are beautiful, just the way you are. As cliché as that sounds, it’s true. The way we live our lives are never going to be the exact same as someone else’s, so why judge it? It doesn’t mean that one is behind or ahead in life, it means we are on different paths + that’s OK! We embrace the flawed, weird, quirky, imperfect, beautiful, magical people that we are. We encourage you, our readers, to do the same.

Here’s a list of ideas to how to get our beautiful readers smiling, because pretty girls smile.

  1. Stay focused on yourself. Do not compare your life to anyone. Live your own life + be confident of your path. Everyone’s path is different.
  2. Live a stress-free lifestyle. Relax, go on adventures, + try new things.
  3. Learn to love yourself. Embrace the person you are + the person you want to be.
  4. Have a positive outlook. Mistakes are going to happen, learn from them + move on. There is good in every situation.
  5. Do what you love. This life is too short to waste your time doing anything else. Take the risk + have some fun!

Just so you know, you are enough! Treat yourself like you are + share your smile to the world, pretty girl.

Behind the Scenes | Life as Classmates

We were fortunate to always have a partner in crime with whatever trouble or success came our way. Whether it be walking to + from school, helping each other with homework, or switching classes to mess with the teacher, we were always at each other’s side.

Becca + Liz

Let’s go back to Kindergarten. Our first class together + we’re pretty sure the teacher retired after having us in her class. I cried on the first day of school because I wasn’t sitting right next to Becca. The teacher had to switch me seats with some other kid just to get me to get a grip. My parents never imagined one of us were going to react that way, but it worked out. Ultimately, our parents decided to keep us out of the same class to hopefully let us grow individually + make our own friends without the other.

Fast forward to junior high school. The most embarrassing stage of life for anyone. Our junior high stage was pretty generic, braces on our teeth, growing into our bodies, + figuring out that there is more to a hairstyle than a ponytail. But the best thing about it was having a class together. Remember, we haven’t been in the same class since Kindergarten, so this was exciting for us. Our first day of 8th grade, in English class, we sat in alphabetical order so I sat in front of Becca in our row. Let me tell you, we talked the whole time, commenting on everything! The teacher had to switch us seats away from each other (opposite sides of the room actually). However, we still managed to communicate from across the room. We also dominated in PE class together.

Now high school. High school to us, took forever to end… We had English + weights together again during freshman year. Freshman year was really an extension of 8th grade, because we really didn’t change much. We did make sure to meet each other somewhere on campus between every single class to make sure we were okay.

Sophomore year was a struggle for me because I had knee surgery towards the end of basketball season. Liz was very supportive + my bodyguard during that time. I was on crutches for 5 months, so she escorted me in the crowded hallways + left classes early to accompany me in the elevator. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any classes (besides weights) together sophomore year, but we made sure to meet at our “between class” spots throughout the day.

Junior year was our anticipation year. We COULD NOT WAIT to become seniors. We only had weights class together again. It was also the year our older brother moved to California. He was one of our best friends, so it was like a piece of us was missing. Not gonna lie, for the first three years of high school, it wasn’t what we expected. But it started to turn around a little bit for our senior year.

The summer before our senior year, I dragged Liz to a Concordia University Irvine basketball camp (just for fun). And Liz ended up earning “Camp MVP” + we both were offered basketball scholarships to play there our freshman year of college. If that wasn’t motivation enough, I don’t know what is. We trained almost every day for basketball, made sure to have 5 classes a day (so we could leave campus early + managed to have 4 of the 5 classes together) + actually had fun leading us into our first college experience.

Freshman year of college was something else, let me tell you.

Stay tuned for our college experience next post!

Cocktail Hour

It’s five o’clock somewhere. Becca + I are not the typical party drinkers, but do appreciate an alcoholic beverage every once in awhile. Whether we are mingling at a Rudd family BBQ, eating dinner at a sophisticated restaurant, or even sitting on the couch watching TV, a cocktail is the way to go. Here are a few of our favorite drinks and recipes for the summer.
